REPORT ON 75th INDEPENDENCE YEAR – AZADI KA MAHOTSAV CELEBRATIONS (2021)

On the occasion of 75th independence year the NSS unit III of Sri Jayendra Saraswati Ayurveda College and Hospital, Department of Ayurveda of Sri Chandrashekarendra Saraswati Viswa Mahavidyalaya organised an event on the September 24, 2021 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, coordinated by Dr. Deepak Raja, Assistant professor, Dept of Kriya Shareera and Dr. Vijay Shankar M R, Asst. Professor Dept. of Agada Tantra and NSS program officer.

The event began with 10:30 AM as 60 students (first years) to clean the herbal garden of SJSACH. Mr. M. Ramakrishnan, Finance Advisor of SCSVMV, was the chief guest for this occasion who shortly arrived for the event. The chief guest was accompanied by Dr. Chitta Ranjan Das, Principal and Mr. Sankarnarayanan, Administrative Officer. The trees were planted in their presence by the students and with few professors of different departments.

There were 5 trees planted, namely Sandalwood tree (???????/Canta?am) (Santalum paniculatum), Cannonball tree (??????????/Nagalingam)(Couroupita guianensis),  Mango tree (??????/M? maram)(Magnifera indica), Jand tree (?????????/Vanni Maram) (Prosopis cineraria), Champak tree (????????/ Champakam)(Michelia champaca); all of these tree have a significance in our culture and heritage and also in the ancient science of Ayurveda and cure variety of diseases. According to our culture mango is considered as a sign of prosperity, the smell of sandalwood signifies serenity, champaka is considered sacred to kama deva (the lord of love), the flower of cannonball tree is in shape of a shiva lingam with a snake around it and jand tree signifies good will. The trees were planted while chanting the maha mritunjaya mantra and praying to lord shiva.

All 60 students later divided into 5 groups with a leader or supervisor (them being Shailender for sandalwood, Srikrishnan for cannonball tree, Adhanya for champak tree, Aweshetty for Jand tree and Nandita for Mango tree).  Each group took the oath and became the parents of the tree for 5 years from now onwards took responsibility for their proper growth.  The students also decided to pass these responsibilities to their juniors.

The event was successfully completed by Dr. Vijay Shankar M R, NSS program officer, SJSACH with vote of thanks. All the students felt energetic after this event and were contented with their new tree children and the refreshments were provided.

For this beautifully remarkable day and opportunity we would like to thank the NSS unit III of SCSVMV, the Chief Guest, the Principal of SJSACH, the Administrator of SJSACH, the staff who accompanied, EC committee, MC committee, the NSS coordinator and SCSVMV.
